Bryant Galleries is excited to announce that nationally acclaimed artist, Dean Mitchell, will be featured in a one-man exhibition at the Mississippi Museum of Art, located in Jackson, Mississippi. The exhibit is scheduled to open Saturday, November 5 of 2005.
The exhibit titled Backbone: Dean Mitchell’s Images of African American Men, will feature a powerful and moving collection of paintings depicting the African-American male figure as only Dean Mitchell can portray him.
The paintings in the exhibition will display the deep inner strength and poetic stoicism the artist sees in his subjects. Collectors from across the country have been moved by the inherent dignity and grace the artist finds in the weathered faces of elderly gentlemen and the sense of youthful intensity found in the eyes of young men.
The museum will draw paintings from a number of private collectors from around the country who have agreed to loan their paintings for this very important exhibit. Other paintings will be from the artist’s personal collection and from Bryant Galleries collection.
